Situated half way between Sneem & Waterville, this spectacular 3 bedroomed detached stone cottage is  just 5 minutes drive from Caherdaniel Village at Farramiaragh, which is beside the famous Scarriff Inn.

THE ACCOMMODATION:

On three levels this bright, spacious house is furnished & decorated to a very high standard and boasts uninterrupted views of Derrynane, Kenmare Bay & Bantry Bay. The house comprises:

Ground Level:

Spacious modern kitchen with all modern conveniences including:

  • American style fridge freezer
  • Stove with electric oven & gas hob
  • Water from natural pressure spring well (located outside)
  • Dining area with large table

Utility Room:

  • Washer & Dryer
  • Individual grill & microwave oven
  • Guest toilet with wash-hand basin

The living area has beautiful wooden floors, TV, DVD, luxurious seating & a feature pot belly stove ran on oil or solid fuel. Again the view is truly stunning with panoramic seaviews. 

LOWER LEVEL:

Just 3 steps lead to the lower level & sleeping accommodation comprising:

  • 1 x double bedroom ensuite
  • 1 x double bedroom (4ft bed)
  • 1 x triple bedroom: 1 x double (4ft bed) & 1 x single bed
  • Main bathroom with Jacuzzi bath

All the bedrooms enjoy fantastic views over the Bay.

MEZZANINE LEVEL:

A few steps up from the Kitchen/dining area leads to mezzanine style room with front facing seaviews perfect for reading, watching TV or simply relaxing & enjoying the scenery..An annex room off this provides additional sleeping accommodation ideal from children.

OUTDOOR AREA:

Complete with decking overlooking the Bay the open plan area around the house is perfect for enjoying a Summers day. It has patio furniture, a barbeque and even an outdoor shower for watersport enthusiasts.

THINGS TO DO LOCALLY:

  • Derrynane House: Derrynane House was the ancestral home of Daniel O'Connell, the Irish statesman who played an important role in gaining Catholic Emancipation in 1829. Today some 120 hectares of the lands of Derrynane, together with Derrynane House, make up Derrynane National Historic Park. Plantations and garden walks were laid out in the 18th and 19th centuries, principally north and west of the house. Some features of the demesne are strongly associated with Daniel O'Connell, including the old Summer House. The main area of the gardens, set inland and to the north of the house, can be reached through a tunnel under the road. Directions: 3.5km from Caherdaniel, off the N70 (the "Ring of Kerry)
  • Eagle Rock Equestrian Centre is situated in Caherdaniel on the beautiful Ring of Kerry (N70). Eagle Rock is A.I.R.E. approved and facilitates rides of all standards. Tuition available from qualified instructors www.eaglerockcentre.com
  • BOAT TRIPS TO SKELLIG ROCK: John O'Shea offers a great boat service to Skellig Islands, he departs from Bunavalla Pier at 10am in the morning.. Its advisable to book in advance.   • BEACHES:  Derrynane Beach Blue Flag Beach Activities include, kayaking, canoeing, horse-riding, diving or simply stroll along the golden sands. A diving school is located at Derrynane Harbour together with a sailing school.Ballinskelligs Blue Flag Beach renowned for its miles of golden beach and turquoise water.

  • THE SCARRIFF INN: Dine in the seafood restaurant and sample the outstanding cuisine or relax in the Visa bar and enjoy the scenery and ambience. The Scarriff Inn is located approx 10mins stroll from Ard na Gaoithe Cottage.

  • CARROLL’S BEACH BAR – Ireland’s only Beach Bar.
    Lively pub with food served all day, speciality seafood !!!!

  • THE BLIND PIPER – Caherdaniel Village.

  • PADDYFROGS RESTAURANT IN WATERVILLE: This stylish, purpose-built restaurant, which overlooks Waterville Bay, was designed by local architect Albert Walsh. Its warm interior combines original artwork on the walls, subdued lighting, chairs covered in red and green shades, a copper candelabra and mirrors framed with driftwood. Choose from dishes on its varied menu such as Kerry lamb, Sneem black pudding on sauteed sweet apples with cider sauce; home baked breads and Irish farmhouse cheeses. It also has an a la carte vegetarian menu and is wheelchair accessible. Sandra Foster and chef Max Lequet are the pair behind Paddyfrogs.
