CARRIGFERN HOUSE

This Luxury property, rebuilt in 2008, stands on a beautifully landscaped site in the south west of Ireland, approximately 1/4 of a mile or 5 minutes walk west of the beautiful and charming village of Glengarriff. This area is renowned for its aesthetic beauty and un-spoilt landscape and is positioned as the gateway to the fabulous Beara Peninsula.

The property is situated on 10 acres of mountainside ground with breathtaking views both to the harbour at the front and the Caha Mountains to the rear. Access to both gems is literally a stones throw away. It has amply parking outside the door so no difficulties in direct access. The front of the property is laid out to lawn so ample areas for children to explore.

The main entrance to this 4,200 sq ft property is at the rear and directly into a utility/cloakroom area. This leads into the very large and contemporary style main open-plan living room, dining and kitchen areas with a beautiful view of the harbour and front gardens through near continuous wall to ceiling glazing. Double glazed doors allow access to the large decking area where one can enjoy the magnificent setting with all the quietness and tranquility one requires. Access to the 6 bedroomed sleeping quarters leads off this main living area. 2 of the bedrooms are en-suite and all are laid out to very high specification.

On entering the village of Glengarriff from the east (Cork/Bantry), take the left fork at the fingerpost situated outside the “Blue Loo” pub. Carry on this road travelling west for approx. ¼ mile and Carrigfern House is situated on the right hand side exiting the second “S” bend.

The Caha’s also contain a lake for every day of the year (365 lakes) so Fishing is also a huge past time for visitors. Garnish Island is known worldwide for its exotic gardens and a must to see. The stunning harbour of Glengarriff will keep any visitor interested in boating/sailing content for any length of stay. Whilst there are so many outdoor pursuits and too many to mention, for those who like to relax and enjoy the “Crack” then Glengarriff offers nigh on continuous music sessions in any of it’s 4 pubs and 2 hotels. Glengarriff – An Gleann Garbh (the rugged glen) is a name derived from the rugged beauty of the mountains and wooded valleys surrounding the village. Indeed there are many magnificent views of mountains and valleys from many viewpoints which hug the coastline that leads into Glengarriff.

Glengarriff is a gateway to the Ring of Kerry and Beara Peninsula and is a picturesque village with all the charm of West Cork.   There is a fantastic selection of shops, traditional bars and restaurants to choose from in this charming village where you will find a traditional warm West Cork welcome. 

ACTIVITIES

Garnish Island

Garnish Island, otherwise known as Ilnacullin, is located in the sheltered harbour Glengarriff.  It is a small island of 15 hectares (37 acres) known to horticulturists and lovers of trees and shrubs all around the world as an island garden of rare beauty.

West Cork Sailing Centre

Located in Adrigole this is a wonderful resource in the area.  Guests at Dalewood Holiday Homes may avail of a 10% discount with West Cork Sailing.  Please enquire directly. 

Fishing

West Cork is an angler’s paradise. Deep Sea fishing, shore fishing, game fishing and coarse fishing are all available. 

Walking

For walkers, Glengarriff is the perfect base to take on the challenges of the Beara and the Kerry Way. 

Touring

Glengarriff is the perfect starting point from which to tour the world renowned Ring of Kerry and the lesser known but equally beautiful Ring of Beara.  Other local scenic drives will take you to Sheep’s Head, Adrigole, the Healy Pass, Lauragh, Gougane Barra, Eyeries, Allihies, Dursey Island (accessible only by cable car!) and the fishing port of Castletownbere.

Kenmare

The very popular town of Kenmare lies just a half hour drive from Glengarriff over spectacular scenery.  Here you will find an incredible selection of shops, bars and restaurants along with many places of historical interest.

Golf

Glengarriff boasts its own truly beautiful nine hole golf course with incredible views and the Championship Bantry Bay Golf Course lies just 10 miles from Glengarriff town.  This challenging cliff-top parkland course is noted as one of the most spectacular and scenic courses in Ireland.
