Dooroy Lodge boasts a truly magical setting directly on the shores of Lough Corrib, with stunning views of wonderful scenery, combined with the peace and tranquility of the idyllic countryside renowned for its mountains & lakes.

Adjoining the owner's home the 2 Bedroom Apartment faces the lake, has its own private entrance, car parking and shared use of the extensive landscaped gardens which run down to the lake.

Located just 1 half miles from the lovely village of Clonbur with pubs, shops,hotel, restaraunts and a gift shop and just 3 and a half miles from the picturesque village of Cong where the classsic Quiet Man Film was made and is home of the historic Ashford Castle .Galway city is within 1 hours drive. Beaches 30 miles. Lakeshore could not be nearer.

The apartment is tastefully decorated, very comfortable and bright, and maintained to a high standard with wooden floors and tiles throughout, two ensuite bedrooms and large hallway downstairs and an open plan kitchen, dining and living room area upstairs overlooking the lake.

Dooroy lodge is a trout anglers paradise due to its location on Lough Corrib and proximity to Lough Mask.

Guests wishing to fish or do some pleasure boating on the lake can avail of the private pier and boathouse at Doory lodge. Boats and engines are available for hire together with life jackets.

Other onsite activites include Dooroy Nature Trail which is a must to be enjoyed by our guests. Bicycles are also available for hire.

Local Attractions and Activities

Walking

Not to be missed Dooroy Nature Trail can be enjoyed by our guests, this looped trail takes you through the woodlands and out to a point at the lakeshore with truly spectacular views and absoulte tranquility. This can be either a romantic stroll or a kids adventure.

Locally there is an abundance or walking trails , the stunning Sean Bothar ( Gaelic for the Old Road) is a 10 km walk from Clonbur to Cornamona and can be accessed nearby, the entire route ovelooks Lough Corrib. For the more energetic Hill climbing is a must at Mount Gable a worthwhile climb to panoramic vviews of both the lakes and mountains.

Cycling

Bicycles are available for hire at Doory Lodge for adults and children.

Touring

This is an ideal base for touring the delights of Cong, Connemara, Connemara Nationnal Park, Leeane and Killary Ford, Kylemore Abbey and Gardens, Clifden and The Sky Road, Westport and Galway city, all of which are within an hours drive.

Locally both Cong and Clonbur offer a variety of pubs and dining experiences from cafes to bar food and restaraunts. Live traditional music sessions are held most weekends and additional nights in the summer season.

There is a local Taxi service in Clonbur. There is a tourist office in Cong.

Fishing

Fishing on Lough Corrib and Lough Mask.

With Lough Corrib quite literally on your doorstep, we cannot make life easier for fishermen. Our Boathouse and Pier at Dooroy Lodge are available to guests, with lake boats available for hire.

The fishing in the area is second to none in the world. The season extends from 15 February to 30 September (the dapping season from mid may to mid June), using mayfly and from mid July to mid September using 'hopper' or 'daddy'. There are many local gillies (fishing guides) available locally.  
A salmon licence may be purchased in the local villages.

Connemara National Park
Connemara National Park covers some 2,957 hectares of scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands and woodlands. Some of the Parks mountains are part of the famous Twelve Bens. Entry to the park is free and there is a newly constructed playground for children. there is a very nice visitor centre with refreshments available. thre are some majestic walks to sut all levels. there is a path which leads all the way to the top of the Diamond. 

Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Gardens

Kylemore Abbey is the oldest of the Irish Benedictine Abbeys. The community of nuns, who had resided here since 1920, have a long history stretching back almost three hundred and forty years. The Visitors centre welcomes visitors on a daily basis . There is a twelve minute video which is available in three languages. www.kylemoreabbey.com

Beaches

Glasilaun beach is a natural beauty. Always golden sand even in high tide its set on a gentle inlet which makes the water very calm. Some fantastic snorkelling of rocks and kelp. Approx 50 minutes drive.

Lettergesh beach. Great waves for body boarding with an offshore breeze.

Dogs Bay at roundstone:Beautiful cove with some lovely rocks for snorkelling around. Approx 50 minues drive

Driving from North

From Sligo take the N17 through to Claremorris, from Claremorris take the R331 to Ballinrobe and the  R334 to Neale, and the R345 to Cong.

Driving from Dublin and East

Take the M6 route to Galway, and on approaching Galway city take the N84 to Castlebar/Headford, in Headford take the R334 to Cong.

Driving from Cork/South

Take the N20 to Limerick and the N18 to Galway city and on approaching Galway take the N84 Castlebar / Headford, in Headford take R334 to Cong

On arriving in Cong turn your clock to zero, while facing the Spar shop and fuel Station beside the river. Turn left. With 0.5 kms on the clock turn left for Cornamona / Maam. With 5.1kms on the clock, at the t junction, turn left and the lake will now be on your left. With 5.9kms turn left driving down towards the lake.And with 6 kms on the clock, turn left again into Dooroy Lodge entrance, stone pillars.
