WALKING

Within easy reach of Kenmare are the uncrowded hills and mountains of Cork and Kerry. To the north lies 'The MacGillycuddy Reeks, Ireland's highest peak 'Carrantuohill'(1013 meters), also there are seven other Munroes(Mountains over 1000 meters) and forty peaks over 600 meters. To the south of Kenmare are the gentle Cahas covered with a rich layer of Blanket bog which stretch from gougane Barra to the Atlantic Ocean.

For the moderate walker there are many traditional and marked routes. Prime among these are the Kerry Way, some of the Republic's longest walkways with marked trails. Maps and accurate route descriptions are available locally. Organised guided walks operate on a regular basis.

Guide available to bring you to Carrauntoohil the highest mountain in Ireland which is in view of Kilkeana Farm House or Mount Brandon the noted Pilgrimage Mountain.

CYCLING

If you want to cover a little more ground, but at your own pace cycling is the perfect way to tour the beautiful countryside surrounding Kenmare. Information is available on a large number of routes and bicycles can
be hired locally.

WATERSPORTS

Canoeing, snorkelling, sailing, waterskiing and windsurfing are some of the watersports available. Daily cruises are available from Kenmare pier to explore the wildlife and scenary surrounding Kenmare.

FISHING

The area is a paradise for anglers with crystal clear rivers and lakes, deep sea angling and shore fishing.

GOLF / PITCH & PUTT

The Kenmare golf course is close by the town with the Ring of Kerry Golf and Country Club a few miles away. Others include Killarney (32km), Waterville (64km) and Ballybunion (74km). A pitch & putt and driving range are also only a couple of miles away.

HORSEBACK

Explorethe hills and beaches around Kenmare on horseback. First class horses and ponies are available from local stables. Kenmare's location on both the Ring of Kerry and Beara makes it the ideal base for sightseeing in this
most scenic and beautiful part of the world. Daily guided coach tours are available locally. 
 

FARMING

Main farming enterprises in the area is beef and sheep. Animals produced in an environment as close to natural organic production as one can get. A visit to the local - twice weekly livestock market is a must.
