An Tigh Padraig Watt The History Local history has it that Padraig Watt left his home- a thatched cottage, and travelled to America to make his fortune sometime in the early 1920’s and returned to Carraroe a rich man just before the crash of 1930’s. It is reported that he liked the houses so much on his visit to the ‘ British Colonies’ that he tried to replicate them in his two story farmhouse built on his return. For example, the full wood panelling in the interiors –a thing unheard of at the time. Carraroe Carraroe, known locally as an An Cheathrú Rua is a seaside village in county Galway within the Irish-speaking region known as the Gaeltacht of Connemara. It is only a ten minute walk from the farmhouse to the centre of the village. It is surrounded by beautiful inlets, bays and secluded beaches which make this area perfect for both lake and sea angling, swimming and diving. The unusual coral beach known as Trá an Dóilín is only a stroll away from the farmhouse. Carraroe is famous for its traditional fishing boats known as Galway Hookers. Also, the Aran Islands Ferry is just a five minute drive away.
