THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA:

This is an ideal location for family holidays much loved by Irish holidaymakers, with easy access to beaches, horseriding and golf and within easy driving distance of the main tourist attractions of Co. Clare:

  • The Cliffs of Moher: stand over 200m above the Atlantic – some of the highest cliffs in Europe. Their scale and beauty can only be truly appreciated when viewed from sea level.
  • The Burren Centre Kilfenora: The Burren, from the Gaelic word Boireann is an area of limestone rock covering imposing majestic mountains, and tranquil valleys with gently meandering streams. With its innate sense of spiritual peace, extraordinary array of flora and wildlife, and megalithic tombs and monuments older than Egypt's pyramids, the Burren creates a tapestry of colour and a seductively magical aura which few people leave without wanting to experience again. In the picturesque village of Kilfenora, The Burren Centre gives the visitor an introduction to the visual delights and ancient mysteries which await to be discovered in this unspoiled corner of Ireland.
  • Burren Riding Centre is beautifully located on an elevated site, on the edge of the ‘Burren’, overlooking Galway Bay, on the coast road between Ballyvaughan and Lisdoonvarna . The centre offers; week-long, 3-day and daily trail rides along the ‘Green Roads’ in the magnificent surroundings of the Burren area of north Clare . Special programme of week-long, post-to-post trail rides on the ‘Burren Trail’ for groups. Trekking in the Burren, on Fanore beach and sand dunes is also available.
  • Doolin Crafts & Gallery:In Doolin just a short drive away you can find one of the best loved craft shops in Ireland. With an emphasis on design, everything is there: sweaters, scarves, pottery, jewellery, leather etc. All uniquely Irish and all uniquely beautiful. The gallery is accompanied by a very cozy restaurant serving only home cooked dishes, surrounded by the splendid gardens created lovingly over the past years.
  • Aillwee Caves: Unlike the vast caverns you may have encountered, Aillwee cave is unique to the geology of the Burren and it enables you to explore a little of what lies under the exciting landscape. This stunning creation of nature was formed by the melt waters of a prehistoric ice age. The cave, carved out of limestone, cuts into the heart of the mountain.
  • The Rock Shop Liscannor: An innovative show room filled with the earth's natural treasures, most are on sale, and there is something for everyone. Crystals of quartz birth stones and healing crystals, stone vases and trays, magnificent celtic carvings on slate. Jewellery and jewels to suit all tastes and fashions and of course rock, fossil and mineral specimens for collectors young and old. Liscannor Stone is the name given to a variety of flagstone that rise from the lands around the Cliffs of Moher and the fishing village of Liscannor. Location: 2 KM outside Liscannor on the R478, towards Doolin
  • Swimming & Surfing: The beach in Lahinch is famous with surfers from all over the world. It is also a great beach for swimming and walking. Especiallly children will enjoy the Seaworld (Swimming Pool & Aquarium) atthe Strand promenade.
  • FISHING: Whether you enjoy fly-fishing, coarse or sea angling, the Burren is your gateway to fine sport in tranquil surroundings in the west of Ireland! There are numerous fishing lakes and rivers in the area. The areas around and Liscannor are noted for rockfishing in  the Atlantic. Sea Fishing Trips can be arranged from Liscannor harbour. Check out www.fishing-burren.com
