Description

Costelloe Lodge - A Titanic Retreat

"He loved all wild and solitary places, where we taste the pleasures of believing what we see is boundless as we wish our souls to be." Percy Bysshe Shelley

Costelloe Lodge in Connemara is an Edwardian Country Residence with views overlooking the Twelve Pins Mountain Range, the Atlantic Ocean and the Casla River.  A property steeped in history in a stunning location and capable of accommodating up to 18 people.

This house was originally designed by Edwin Lutjens for Bruce Ismay the Chairman of the White Star, the company which owned the Titanic ship.  As a keen angler, this beautiful part of Connemara was Ismay's chosen retreat following the sinking of the ill-fated Titanic. Landscaped gardens originally designed by Gertrude Jekyll offer a stunning palette of colour to the estate with all the flora and fauna having been carefully selected to complement Connemara's wild and natural beauty.

SInce purchasing the property, the owners of Costelloe Lodge have lovingly restored this stunning home true to its original Edwardian Heritage and its former glory.

Newly renovated property in Connemara

"We had the most fabulous time staying in this beautiful home with a group of London friends on their first trip to Ireland. Lorna greeted us on arrival and left us a lovely breakfast parcel. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to cook breakfast for 14 people as well as a Sunday roast. Although we had issues with hot water on our first day, this was quickly resolved and Lorna was happy for us to contact us at any time with questions/ concerns. Hoping to visit again and will definitely recommend :) Thanks again for a wonderful stay!"

Just do it!

"Our family of 17 stayed for 5 nights in late November. Our group consisted of 10 adults and 7 children, ages 6 to 15. The lodge was perfect for us. When we asked the children what their favorite part of the vacation was, the lodge was second only to the Cliffs of Moher for all of them. There were so many places where they, or the adults, could hang out. The card room, the pool table, on the window seats. The lodge is large enough for all to find their special quiet place. We had a fire every evening with cocktails after our days of sightseeing. When I walked the grounds on our first day I found 2 donkeys in the front yard. We all enjoyed petting them. The house is in a perfect central location to see Western Ireland. 40 minutes from Galway, 2 hrs to Cliffs. The beds and linens were exceptionally comfortable and bathrooms were plentiful. There are pubs nearby and the locals are welcoming. There was a church fundraiser at the nearby pub with Irish music and dancing on Sunday afternoon which we all attended. Wow, was that an experience. This area is Irish speaking (Gaelic) so the announcer spoke Irish most of the time with interspersions of English for our benefit. The locals showed us the dance moves and made sure we felt welcome. It was my trip highlight for sure. My 9 year old granddaughter left with 2 new pen pals as well. Lorna, the owner, was exceptionally welcoming and responsive. When contacted for help because we couldn't figure out the coffee maker, she brought another one. Don't think twice if you're considering booking this property. Just do it!"

"Truly spectacular home and grounds. We were joined by my English and Irish cousins for a family reunion and we all had the best time. Wonderful to stay in the home my Dad and Uncles spoke so fondly of."

Wonderful home to celebrate a BIG birthday

"Ideal place to bring a family ranging in ages from 3 to 70! The house is magnificent and I feel all the better for staying there. There is so much to do in the house itself and its fabulous gardens. We had day trips to the Aran Islands, Carraroe and Galway City. The beaches in Carraroe are wonderful. The highlight of our trip was a musical evening with the Connolly family - what a treat! We had a wonderful celebration in a wonderful area and will take home treasured memories of our time here."
