Donegal Boardwalk Resort - Carrigart Co. Donegal

Sandy Beach | Pet Friendly | Family Friendly | Activity and Adventure | Wi-Fi | Open Fireplace | Resorts

Nestled between the two Donegal villages of Creeslough and Carrigart is the hidden gem of Donegal Boardwalk Resort.  Recently purchased by new owners who have invested heavily in this wonderful Resort over recent months.  Previously known as Cuan na Ri Oceanfront Resort, Donegal Boardwalk Resort has been rebranded so as to highlight one of its most attractive features – a 1100m wooden boardwalk which leads from the Resort’s Café Bistro across the dunes directly to miles of white Donegal beaches.

In all there are 27 premium villas spread amongst 3 small cul de sacs.  Each horseshoe-shaped cluster contains a mix of 9 detached and semi-detached stone clad villas.  The grounds are meticulously maintained and the tarmacked surfaces are just perfect for children to ride their bikes or kick a ball.

A drive leads from the Resort’s entrance off the road between Carrigart and Creeslough, past the three clusters of Villas and the first children’s playground directly down to the public carpark in front of the Boardwalk Café Bistro, the all weather five-a-side, tennis, basketball court, the second children’s playground and of course, the gateway to the boardwalk itself.  A 25 minute easy stroll will bring you directly to the sandy beach and the boardwalk’s surfaces are smooth and ideal for pushing prams and buggies or riding bikes.  From the Villas to the beach is approximately a 5km round trip and a very enjoyable walk.

There are type Villa types within the Resort.  The detached Villas are slightly larger and have 3 bedrooms sleeping up to 6 people.  They have an open plan kitchen and living room with a separate dining room area in the adjoining sun room.  Two of the bedrooms are located downstairs – one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, along with the main family bathroom with shower over bath.  Upstairs is the third and master bedroom with ensuite with shower and there is large gallery which looks down over the living space below.

The semi-detached Villas also sleep up to 6 people in three bedrooms but they have two double bedrooms and a third bedroom with bunk beds (ideal for families with children.  All bedrooms are located upstairs.  There is a family bathroom with a shower over bath and the master double bedroom has an ensuite with shower.  There is also a guest toilet downstairs.

The sitting rooms in all the Villas have recently undergone extensive refurbishments and now boast cosy wood burning stoves, SMART TV’s, comfortable couches, new curtains, and best of all – free WIFI to all guests!

There is a decked area at each of the Villas with patio furniture and all around the Villas, is surrounded by grassy areas.

A certain number of Villas have been designated “pet-friendly” so all the family can go away together!  No need to leave the dog behind this summer. There is an additional charge of €30.00 per pet payable onsite and you must mention at the time of booking that you will be bringing your dog.

This is a Resort that has been well thought out and planned with your needs in mind.  In fact you need never leave the Resort during your stay if you come with your groceries at the start!

We will definitely be back

"The service which the caretaker George and his wife provided was very good. He was there upon arrival and always around the site if you needed anything - not that we did. They were both lovely and friendly. The standard of the house and grounds is very impressive. Everything is well maintained and very clean. The walk to the main beach is quite far, but its make easier by the boardwalk which allows anyone with a buggy to get onto the most beautiful and peaceful beach you could imagine. It great for dog walkers too as the beach is very quiet and you can let your dog off the lead as long as it doesn't bother anyone. The area is very beautiful and great for outdoor lovers. The weather tends not to be great so be prepared for rain. We took our kids (age 6 and 9) to Glen Valley outdoor centre where they did Zorbing, Rodeo Bull, Zip Wire and got to sit in for the unbelievable off-road driving. This is definitely worth a visit and can be done even if the weather is not great - just wear suitable clothes that can get dirty. There is a free outdoor play area and lots of games (Cube style) in the indoor barn. For a wet day Kids Kingdom indoor soft play and swimming pool in Downings is quite good and reasonable. We also went Horse Riding which is available in the next town, Carrigart. A little further drive and you could go to Ards Forest Park. It's 5 euro entry but you get a nice play area, lovely walks and a nice little beach. Close to this is Ards Friary which also has a lovely quiet beach, footpath coastal walks and a sweet little cafe which does fresh sandwiches, good coffee, soup and the best cakes around. For eating out we went mostly to Dunfanaghy (about a 15 min drive away). This is a very busy little town in the summer and has some good gift shops and good restaurants and cafes. The Oyster and Arnolds being our favourite. Overall this was a lovely holiday make enjoyable by the quality of the accommodation and the location. We will definitely be back."
